There is a lot of controversy on how to feed your pets. Do you put food down and let them graze? Are they social eaters and only eat when you do? Do you measure out and feed them twice or three times a day?

Each method has its benefits and drawbacks. It’s easy to just put food down and let your dogs graze through the day. Concerns are that they may eat too much and become overweight and later in life if you need to give them medication, its easier to hide it in their food when they are on a more regimented program.

Veterinarians suggest to keep your pets lean to avoid injuries later in life. Most joint issues can be avoided if your pet is lean and gets plenty of exercise.

Dogs are pack animals so its best to feed them after you eat. That way there is a routine and they know you are the alpha.

If you choose to feed by measuring out food, stay in contact with your vet to make adjustments to the amount of food. Feeding twice a day (morning and evening) is just fine. If your pet has a sensitive stomach or is getting older feeding less food, more often can help them digest easier and calm their stomach.
