Safety with kids and pets

If you have a new pet, talk to your children on the basics. Of course, it’s easier with the older kids. Some things to discuss…

Ask permission before approaching any pet. If it’s your own pet, make sure the pet is aware that they are approaching, so they don’t spook the pet.
Stay calm – pets feed off of your energy. Staying calm will keep the pet calm.
Get Help – If there is a problem, ask a parent for help.
Keep the pet enclosed or on a leash – Pets are escape artists, so always keep them on leash or enclosed.
Never use physical punishment -You could hurt the pet, or they could hurt you back.
No feeding – only feed the pet at scheduled dinner time with normal dinner.. not your leftovers!
Stay of out of the crate – Your pets crate is their safe place. Let it be their safe place and not a play area.
