When it comes to training your pet, setting routines are crucial!
What is your routine when you wake up? Do you let your dog out right away? Do you feed them right away? Do they wake you because they want to be fed?
What is your routine when you come home? Do you let your dog out right away? What if you were just gone for a few minutes?
What is your night time routine? Do you put your puppy in a crate? Is there family and pay time? Outdoor time?
It may help to keep a log of your routines. Keeping them consistant from one family member to another is paramount! You dog will get mixed messages and not know what to do otherwise.
When yo lack routines you pet does not know what to expect, and then they do what they think you want them to do. They may be used to you letting them out right away when you get home. And, if you don’t one time, they may have an accident.
Think of morning breakfast. If your pet wakes you to get fed. Start a new routine. Let them out first thing, get ready for work, and then feed them. That way they don’t associate waking up with getting fed… and you can sleep in on the weekends.
