We always suggest measuring and feeding your dog a specific amount at routine times each day. That way they will maintain their weight, and you will hold your position as the pack alpha.

When using treats as rewards we suggest using the normal food that the pet always eats, so you don’t upset their stomach and removing the amount you use for training from their next meal. So, they can maintain their weight.

Start heavy and give a lot of treats and praise. As they learn the trick, use more praise and less treats. And, start a new training where they can get more treats. Repetition is key!

You can use treats to lure your dog to stay at your side when walking or at stand still by holding it above their nose. Just remember to give them treats and praise often… and less as they learn.

We use the terms “wait” and “take it” when training. That way our kids know that the treat is ready, but not to jump and grab it out of our hands. Then take it is the release for them. This has reduced the amount of stollen treats and sore fingers.
